Minister of Research and Technology Gusti M Hatta inaugurated Micro Smart Grid demo Plant. He said, the technology is able to integrate and manage the utilization of various renewable energy power plants either solar, wind, hydro, biomass, including diesel.
Initiative BPPT (Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology) is nice and the first in Indonesia in the District of Southwest Sumba, NTT.

According to him, the smart grid is supported by a variety of advanced technologies, both electronic equipment and tools of information and communication technologies (ICTs). He claims the technology is the right solution in an era of ever increasing utilization of various renewable energy.

Meanwhile, the head of BPPT Marzan A Iskandar said the smart grid is a new approach to operating the power system that utilizes communications technology, computer, and cyber in distributing electrical energy in the future.
Implementation of smart grid will provide greater benefits.

This is because the amount of renewable generation and distributed storage units and integrated increases, increase efficiency, decrease operating costs, increased reliability and emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) decreased.
Smart grid, is a pilot model that integrates solar energy, micro hydro, and diesel generators. Smart grid is intended to reduce the use of diesel fuel that is widely used in remote areas like the Southwest Sumba.

This demo is expected to be a reference in terms of both technological and economical in terms of including a reference to make a smart buying and selling electricity grid in urban areas, he said.

Micro Smart Grid Demo Plant located in the village of Sumba Cenge Billa, Southwest Sumba which integrates solar generating capacity of 500 kWp into the 20kV network system owned by PLN.

PLN's network is currently supported by two diesel-fired power plants in the City of Waikabubak 7 units and 4 units in the City Waitabula and micro hydropower plant in the village Lokomboro 3 units (source metrotvnews.com)
